Stream Friendly (DMCA Free Music) Playlists: Twitch

Since the music copyright action was taken by Twitch regarding music copyright infringement in 2020 we have all become very aware of the dreaded DMCA copyright strike.

As a result, if you are a streamer you must ensure that the music you are streaming on Twitch is DMCA free music or non DMCA music.

Where can I find DMCA free music?

Below you will find stream-friendly (DMCA Free or non DMCA music) playlists for Twitch.

The music in the playlists below is safe to stream on Twitch or YouTube.

I have written and produced this music and you can download the music directly from my website for free, with a full legitimate royalty-free music license, or alternatively, you can stream the music via all the major music streaming platforms such as Spotify.

I include a full professional music license with my free music downloads, therefore, if Twitch ever sends you a DMCA strike, you can send my music license to them which will prove you have downloaded the music legally from my website and have permission from the music artist to use the music

In addition, this music is part of the Soundtrack for Twitch platform, so you are doubly covered.

How do I avoid a DMCA copyright strike?

To avoid a DMCA copyright strike on Twitch, you need to ensure that you have permission from the music copyright holder to use the music.

There are lots of articles online discussing DMCA music copyright, but as a twitch streamer you have to ensure that you can answer yes to the following question – Do you have permission from the music copyright owner to use this music in your Twitch stream?

If you can answer a firm “yes” to this question and can prove it if asked, you know you are on the right side of the DMCA copyright rules.

What does Twitch say about DMCA copyright and music use?

Below is an extract from the official Twitch community guidelines on music:

Here are some example types of music content you may use in Twitch streams and on-demand content:

Music Licensed To You – Copyrighted music owned in whole or part by someone other than you if you have secured a license to share it on Twitch from the relevant copyright holders.

This example provided by Twitch is very clear – you need permission from the music owner.

How you get this music into Twitch, whether you download it from the artist directly or use a platform such as Spotify through which to stream, is very unclear and I am currently investigating the answer to this, but at the end of the day, as long as you have permission from the music owner, and can prove this, you can be sure that the music is safe to use and will not get you the dreaded DMCA copyright strike.

Will you ever claim copyright on my streams?

I have been reading a lot of articles online where streamers are afraid that the musical artist will claim copyright on the music at a future date. As a result, properly destroying a streamer’s life on Twitch!

This is a cruel act if done intentionally and I am stunned that such a practice might deliberately exist.

The license I provide on my website is a legal document that covers you. As long as you use the music in your streams as background music and follow the license terms, you do not have to worry about this music getting claimed in the future.

I want to ensure that streamers are comfortable and happy with using my music in their Twitch streams, so if you have any concerns about this that I have not covered, please email me and I will get back to you ASAP.

Spotify and Twitch

Personally, I encourage people to stream my music on Twitch through Spotify.

Why? Because using Spotify (or any other major streaming platform) will help me get a few pennies in the bank via streaming royalties.

Every time you play more than 30secs of one of my songs, I get a fraction of a dollar, $0.002 (or something tiny) but it all adds up.

Therefore, if ever asked by Twitch, you can show where you got the music from and that you have permission to use it in your streams.
