Composer Notes on this Background Music

This track begins with an eerie, scary and tense atmosphere played on a xylophone. At 29 seconds the melody builds with an underscore of disorientating trombone to give a feeling of confusion and fear. 

Inspired by classic animation from Tim Burton, this track aims to create more of a spooky atmosphere than horror, using children’s musical instruments to keep the tone light but scary.

The tune builds to include violins and deep trombones and saxophones which create an alternative counter melody, invoking feelings of wonder, other world and spookiness.

I could not resist using the classic violins and strings to play on the stabbing three-note theme and invoking stomping double bass to create a monster feel.

Creating children’s music that is scary but in a fun way is a great challenge and one of the reasons why I had so much fun writing this track. Using musical instruments typically associated with children such as xylophone, music boxes and trombone and using them to play discords and a more sinister melody can be rather terrifying if taken to the extreme. In this tune, I try to keep the mood light invoking a scary Halloween style track that is perfect to create an atmosphere of fun spookiness.
